Scientific publication shows that chicory root fibres can significantly lower the blood glucose response in sugar-reduced food products

March 2017 - Prebiotic chicory root fibres can significantly lower the blood glucose response when used to partially replace the sugars in a food product. This effect has now been confirmed for formulations with low levels of sugar replacement in two well-designed blood glucose response studies¹. Correlation analysis of the data also highlighted the more sugar that is replaced with chicory root fibre, the lower the blood glucose response will be. The linear slope suggests this effect can be seen with less than the 20% of sugar replacement, which is the lowest level that was experimentally tested.

Study shows direct link between BENEO’s chicory inulin and improved wellbeing

February 2017 - A new study¹ shows that BENEO’s prebiotic chicory root fibre, Orafti® Inulin, induces selective changes in the gut’s microbiota composition that can be directly linked to improved regularity and wellbeing for the first time. The study, conducted by Professor Jeroen Raes, Department of Microbiology and Immunology and Professor Kristin Verbeke, Translational Research in Gastrointestinal Disorders unit at the University of Leuven, Belgium, has been published in the journal Gut and highlights the very selective effect of Orafti® Inulin on the gut microbiota composition².

Two new scientific studies confirm benefits of Orafti®Synergy1 in reducing the risk of diabetes

July 2016 - Two new research studies, conducted by Professor Gary Frost and his team from Imperial College London, and funded by Diabetes UK, have shown three major beneficial effects of BENEO’s chicory root fibre Orafti®Synergy1 (oligofructose-enriched inulin) in reducing the risk of diabetes¹². The first is in helping prediabetic people to lower energy intake and enhance weight loss.  The second is in assisting prediabetic adults reduce fat content in their liver and muscle tissue and the third is in improving their insulin secretion after a meal. The researchers have concluded that (fermentable) chicory root fibres have unique metabolic effects that are of particular benefit to people at risk of diabetes.
